Hun Sen calls for a rethink on Russia sanctions

Kin Phea, director of the International Relations Institute at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, said Germany is the backbone of the European Union (EU) and should play more important role as a mediator.

“I see Germany as a backbone country of the EU, playing an effective role by promoting direct negotiations between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy to end the war. The war will not end by war, but talk and discussion can,” he said.

Phea expressed his belief that war can be ended by bringing Putin and Zelenskyy to the negotiating table peacefully. “Germany and EU should play this actively. If the EU is biased, mediation to end the war is not easy, and if the war continues, it will be even worse for the whole world. The economic crisis, the energy crisis and the food crisis will get worse everywhere.”
