Cambodia and the Belt And Road Initiative: Opportunity, Challenges And Perspectives

The International Relations Institute of Cambodia in cooperation with the Research Centre for Sustainable Hong Kong (CSHK) of the City University of Hong Kong (CityU), is going to organize a workshop on “Cambodia and the Belt And Road Initiative: Opportunity, Challenges And Perspectives” on 06 March 2019 at the Royal Academy of Cambodia’s conference room.

This workshop is organized to serve as the meeting center for scholars, researchers and students from Cambodia and China to jointly work to examine opportunity, challenges and perspectives for Cambodia within the framework of China’s BRI. This workshop is rather a free discussion forum than a formal arrangement in form. So all participants are encouraged to share their ideas, wisdom and perspectives on BRI projects in Cambodia, and both positive and negative views are most welcome.

However, to lay ground for discussion, we will have four speakers, two speakers from Cambodia and the other two from Hong Kong, who will share their research findings and perspectives on four different focuses. Prof. Dr. Ky Sereyvath, Director of China Study Center of RAC will examine the potentials and risk of BRI for Cambodia while Dr. Ka Mathul, Director of Department of Diplomatic Studies of the IRIC will overview the dreams of the Cambodian people towards China’s BRI. Prof. Linda Chelan Li, Director of Research Centre for Sustainable Hong Kong (CSHK) of the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) will present her research project on “Greater Bay Area & Chinese Reform under the Belt and Road Initiative” while Mr. Raymond Wong, Lecturer of Division of Building Science and Technology of the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) will focus on his research findings on “Urban Development in China: Lessons Learned for Developing Countries”.
