The relations between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the People’s Republic of China are at the highest level ever. In addition to its economic and political clout expands in Cambodia, Chinese culture and language fit seamlessly into the Cambodian society as well. People-to-people contacts continue to be an important area of Cambodia-China socio-cultural cooperation.
The influx of Chinese businesses and people have contributed greatly in Cambodia’s development and shares in GDP, however, it also faces some challenges including misperception and misinterpretation of Chinese image in Cambodia. This trend requires higher levels of understanding of local people’s culture and tradition and rule-based principle in doing business. Promoting people to people contacts must go along with education of culture and behavior of both countries and peoples in the context of diversified world.
In order to contribute in enhancement of mutual understanding through correct mutual perception for the strengthening and developing of long-term bonds of friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and China, and to contribute in the effort of the two governments in strengthening and developing closer political, economic and socio-cultural cooperation, and people-to-people contacts between the two peoples and two countries, the International Relations Institute of Cambodia (IRIC) of the Royal Academy of Cambodia (RAC) in cooperation with and funded by the National Institute for Global Strategy (NIGS) of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), will organize the First Annual Cambodia-China Cooperation Forum (ACCCF) with the theme of “Cambodia-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership toward the Community of a Shared Future: We Grow Together” on 6-9 December 2019 in Historical and Cultural City of Siem Reap of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
This Forum aims to inform relevant stakeholders on the evolution and development of Cambodia-China relations and cooperation by focusing on achievements, challenges and opportunities for political, economic and socio-cultural cooperation and connectivity, and what its next moves. Moreover, there is a need to uphold further frank dialogues on the Cambodia-China cooperation and its latest directions as well as developments, so that any misunderstandings and confusions among concerned actors would be able to be reduced, and some consensus steps would be able to be in place in an attempt to further improve bilateral cooperation, peace, harmony and prosperity in the two countries and in the region.
